Basic Word Processing and Print Documents: This module teaches the basics of Microsoft Word (for the Mac) or Mac's own Appleworks. These programs can be used for writing documents of all kinds. They can be used for everyday personal tasks such as writing letters or keeping an address list, and for more complex tasks, such as publishing a newsletter or creating a simple database.
Basic Web Design: If you're looking for an easy way to create a web site without having to invest in expensive web design software or master advanced web design skills, Mac's iWeb interface makes it easy to find all the tools you'll need to create visually appealing web sites. With iWeb you can use templates to create exciting web pages. Even better, as you add or remove web pages, iWeb automatically updates your site navigation menu (the web site's clickable table of contents) for you. Web sites can be a good way of sharing family photos and keeping distant family members up to date on your family's activities and accomplishments. By client preference, basic web design through the use of online templates and other automated web design processes may be substituted for training in iWeb. (Note: Those registering for this module should have at least a basic level of computer skill, a basic comfort accessing and using the internet, and some familiarity with Mac OS X.)
Mac Software Training: Intermediate Level
Intermediate Photo Handling: Using PhotoShop Elements, in this module clients learn the basics of color correcting, resizing, managing and controlling file size through resolution adjustments, to understand the difference between photos meant for print and those used in screen presentation, and how to use a wide variety of tools to add special effects to photos.
Intermediate Word Processing and Print Documents: This module teaches clients to use Mac's Pages for creating more advanced print documents. Thanks to new text and image editing tools, it’s the easiest way to look good in print. Apple-designed templates help build stunning documents in minutes. Photos can be added quickly with the built-in iLife Media Browser. Text can be formatted in minutes with elegant predefined styles. Punch can be added to each page with multiple columns, colorful graphics, and engaging 3D charts. Newsletters, flyers, menus, invitations, all kinds of publications for home or business, can be created with great effectiveness. Whatever you write, Pages can help you do it in style. By client preference, intermediate level instruction in Microsoft Word may be substituted for instruction in Pages. (Also see Windows training for Microsoft Publisher.)
Presentation Power: For those who want sharp, colorful, and effective visual aids to accompany their presentations, classroom instruction, or public speeches, this module will make it happen. Microsoft Powerpoint for the Mac or Mac's own Keynote, the latest generation of Apple’s stunning presentation software, will make grabbing and holding an audience’s attention easy. Perhaps you’d like to make a business proposal, highlight the quarter’s results for investors, dazzle viewers with your photos of the southwest, or effectively keep students on task. Whatever your story, make it into an exquisite presentation by registering for our Presentation Power module!
Movie Power: If your Mac has a SuperDrive, you can create professional quality DVDs. iDVD comes with several templates that make designing multimedia DVDs to showcase movies, photos, and music possible. It integrates seamlessly with iMovie, iPhoto, and iTunes and makes it possible to access a wide variety of media files for creating DVDs. This module teaches clients to effectively integrate iMovie and iDVD to create their own multimedia DVDs.
Intermediate Office Skills: Using Microsoft Word and Excel for the Mac, this module combines training in both programs and teaches clients to integrate the power of each for more effective office management.
Intermediate Web Design and Management: This module is designed for those who desire a presence on the web that goes beyond the automated web site creation offered at the basic level. This intermediate level of web design and management offers training in Macromedia Dreamweaver. In this module a trainer works side-by-side with the client to determine the look, feel, size, and functionality of the site. With the client's input, the designer essentially builds a custom web site and then trains the client to manage, edit, and update the site as needed. This method allows the client to have an intimate knowledge of each page and of all the site's elements, as well as the skills to make basic changes to the site's content or to update the content whenever updating is needed. The advantage of this method is that it eliminates reliance on a third party web design service for the ongoing management of the site, putting that ability into the hands of the site's owner.
Mac Software Training: Advanced Level
Graphic Design for Print Documents: Using a combination of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, this module teaches the fundamental principles of creating customized print documents which do not rely on an automated template. Documents which contain a combination of text and graphic design elements, including photos, fall into this category. By using the powerful editing and design tools of Photoshop to create a well-integrated professional use of graphics and text elements, and then learning to optimize and export these elements into InDesign, all kinds of print materials are possible. This module is designed to help our clients build a high level of desktop publishing skill.
Advanced Web Design and Management: This module is designed for those who want to learn web site design and have the skill to build a web site and all of the site's elements from scratch. Using Macromedia Fireworks and Dreamweaver in combination, this module teaches clients to create colorful, dimensional graphic designs, to optimize and properly prepare graphics and photos for use on the web, to design and lay out an entire web site, to integrate all the design and content elements, and to add user interactivity to a site. These skills can make it possible to create and manage one's own web site, or later, with enough practice and application, to build and manage sites for others.
Advanced Presentation Power: This module is designed for those who want to learn how to develop and produce interactive software applications or computer tutorials for educational or business purposes, or for any context in which computer tutorials may be needed. Macromedia Director is a powerful authoring tool, sometimes referred to as a development platform, and with it interactive software complete with graphics, digital images, sound, text, and interactive animation can be produced. Fireworks is a powerful graphics, text, and image editing program, and with it colorful, three dimensional graphics images for screen backgrounds, buttons, titles, and a wide variety of other illustrations can be created and exported for use in Director. When used in combination, self-contained, self-running interactive multimedia software can be created for distribution on CD-ROM or on the Web.
